LaLiga lowers Barça's salary cap by 100 million following the Camp Nou VIP box scandal and construction: "It's 70-80 million a year."

LaLiga has announced the squad cost limits (SCCLs) for First and Second Division teams following the close of the transfer window. This is an interesting time to analyze the financial situation of Spanish football clubs, especially those affected by the economic crisis. The figures announced by the organization are striking in Barcelona 's latest drop, which has dropped from a €463 million limit to €351 million , a €112 million devaluation directly influenced by the VIP boxes and the Camp Nou renovations .

"It coincides with the 100 million euros for losing the VIP boxes; the cause and effect are there, there's no other," recalled Javier Gómez , LaLiga's corporate general manager. "It's going to overcome that situation 100%. There was one auditor who said they were worthy and another who said they weren't. We're not auditors . It's related to them going to Camp Nou, of course. It seems so, but we're not sure yet," he added.

Javier Tebas , president of La Liga, agreed: "We are bound by the auditor's report. What the previous auditor said was useless, and now we're waiting for another one. The auditor sets the pace; we can't go against him. Barcelona has shown that it can sign players without being 1/1. It's coming off a La Liga win with great players who have developed from within, and it's not mandatory to sign," Tebas said during his appearance at La Liga headquarters.

The Catalan club continues to cope with the consequences of the lack of income due to the construction work at Camp Nou. "The ground is closed, now they've played at the Johan Cruyff Stadium... That's money lost. It's 70 or 80 million euros a year . They'll certainly recover their income, the question is when," Gómez insisted.

The LCPD indicates how much teams can spend on their roster based on their income and expenses. Real Madrid , meanwhile, is the team that can spend the most, with a limit of 761 million, seven more than last season (754 million).

Third on the list is Atlético Madrid , which improved its figure by 12 million euros from last year, from 314 to 326 million. Villarreal is close behind after qualifying for the Champions League and following a summer of buying and selling. It goes from 135 million to 173 million euros.

Overall, the overall limit for the 20 teams has gone from €2.671 billion to €2.704 billion , a slight improvement after a summer marked by low net spending in LaLiga, compared to a Premier League that spent €1.4 billion more than the Spanish competition.

"The Premier League is running a deficit , and its spending has an inflationary effect on the rest of Europe's clubs. They call it investment, but it's destruction. They sign a lot of players but can't get the stars, and we're not worried. We're as far ahead or even further ahead than them in the competitions; there's no need to worry. It's the song of the summer: 'Shame on La Liga, they're ahead of us .' Well, they're ahead of us in debt and destruction. They're not ahead of us in terms of the sustainability of the competition," Tebas reflected.
